Integrated Planning with SAP BI-IP

The basis for end-to-end strategic planning and operative implementation

Integrated planning has become a dynamic integral component of strategic company management. In it, the comprehensive exchange of information among individual planning areas and time periods is key. The planning applications in SAP BW IP enable you to map your company's strategic plans with minimal configuration effort and quickly realize them in operative implementations. As a result, you can meet the demands of new business models and competitive globalized markets.

The structure of these planning applications is open and flexible, allowing users themselves to determine the type and areas of the plans they wish to make.

When planning in SAP® R/3® , the available planning applications build on the data structures of the corresponding operative applications, which feature heterogeneous data models. The Integrated Planning (IP) application is implemented in SAP® BW, and all of the application's planning components are based on the data model. Meanwhile, SAP® BW serves as a platform for data models that follow the OLAP principle; these multidimensional data structures facilitate various planning functions (see below).

Retraction makes it possible for certain R/3 components – such as CO-CCA (Cost Center Accounting), CO-PA (Profitability Analysis), PS (Project System), and IM (Investment Management) – to feed data from BW back into R/3. This ensures your ability to write data from Integrated Planning back into R/3 when planning – in both R/3 and BW. As a result, you can not only access R/3 planning data from BW, but continue to use IP planning data in R/3, as well.

Planning functions

Planning functions

The planning query function is designed for manual planning in cases where a small amount of planning data is to be collected, no functional relationships exist among the existing information, or you wish to view and modify certain current planning data with minimal effort. The data is entered in individually configured planning queries.

In addition to manual planning, the freely definable planning functions available enable you to use existing planning or actual data as a template. These functions also make it possible to utilize data from different InfoCubes. Little effort is required to process larger quantities of data, such as when using actual data from the previous year as reference values for current planning.

The system itself does not specify a certain procedure for differentiating between planning and actual data. This distinction is made with a characteristic (usually a version) within the data model in question. Meanwhile, users themselves are responsible for maintaining these characteristics and correctly allocating their content.

They also, however, enjoy greater flexibility thanks to differentiation options that go beyond just "actual" and "planned": IP can also distinguish between internal and external plans, plans on hold, current plans, various planning scenarios, and more.

Publication on the web

To configure consistent planning applications, different planning functions and queries can be consolidated into web templates. This makes it possible to publish the applications online.

You can use your own style sheet classes to achieve integrated applications with web reporting (see also: cundus Reporting Framework) and planning; the interface's appearance can also be tailored to your specific preferences. Meanwhile, the cundus-developed PrintManager enables users to print information displayed on the web in a consistent, formatted manner.
